Facts You Should Know About Your Dental Insurance

Dental Insurance is rapidly playing a larger role in helping patients afford their dental treatment.  You deserve the Best Dental Care, and in order to maintain that High Quality, we would like to share with you some facts that may pertain to your dental insurance plan:

  1. Dental insurance is NOT meant to be a pay-all option, but is better seen as a "coupon" or aid to your treatment.

  2. Many plans tell their insured that they will be covered from 80% to 100% on services.  In spite of what you are told, we have found that many plans actually only cover about 50% of an average fee.  For the same procedure, some plans pay more and some pay less.  The amount your plan pays is determined by the agreement made between your employer and the insurance company.  A general rule is the cheaper the plan, the less benefits you will receive.

  3. It has been the experience of many dentists that some insurance companies tell their customers that "fees are above the usual and customary fees" rather than saying "Our benefits are low".  Remember, you can only get back what your employer puts in, less the profit the insurance company wants to make.

  4. Many routine dental services are NOT covered by insurance carriers. Specific benefit levels and eligible procedures can be found in your plan details.

Unfortunately dental insurance can be confusing and is not always easy to understand.  Benefits can be verified by calling your insurance company or your human resources department.  We fill out and file all insurance claims on your behalf at no additional fee with the mindset of Maximizing Your Benefits and minimizing your out-of-pocket expenses.  You will find comfort in the fact that we are Here to Help you with any questions or concerns you may have in how your dental plan fits with our office.
